Try posting down on the "Harry Ferguson" board below. You'll get a specific answer to what's wrong.

I do know you don't want to force the wrong belt on! It will damage the belt, and the old generators and pumps don't like tight belts! If you can't get a good answer, I would try to find one the same as what came off.

I"m presuming your 20 x 1000 spec belt is supposed to a meter in length and your supplier sold you one that is .975 m. You supplier sold you the wrong length belt because he didn"t have the correct length one. Take it back and get the correct one!

Couple things come to mind after I got
done reading through all the caps,
rough reading though. 1. Maybe the
generator has a different pulley than
what came with the tractor originally
(maybe somebody replaced the whole
generator 40 years ago). 2. The place
that sold it to you is wrong, 3. There
is some other words setup that makes
you need a longer belt. Since your belt
number and theirs don't match up, I
would look for the correct sized one on
line and just order it and you should
be good to go. The new one will be
tighter since it hasn't had years to
stretch.

First off let me apologise for the caps being on, where I work they need to be in caps and it is a habit I have after doing so for over 15years. Thank you for your replies I will try and find a longer belt on line. I have searched quite a bit already before I posted here, if anyone has a suggestion as to where or whom sells belt please let me know thank you all for your help guys

I'm not much on metric belts, but from what I found, some belts are measures on the OD, some are measured on the pitch diameter.

Possibly you need a 1000mm PD instead of OD?

Is there a bearing supply near you? They would have better sources than an auto supply. Or do some research online, see what's available and how they are measured.

Hi
There was a continental motor fitted in some of the early gas 20's That is more common in Canada
from what I see around for sale compared to the the standard. I wonder if that tractor uses a different belt . also the early standard was a 6v later like yours should be 12v electrics.

The gen mounting is different between them to . if the belt came from a tractor parts supplier with just one listing that could be your problem if the others need a different belt.
As others have said to there are many other variations that could occur over many years to so we are
all guessing really. It's heading to about 25 years since i was hands on turning a wrench on a grey Fergie so I don't remember anything about belt lengths between them. The 85 figure you have is the size of the cylinders in the motor the early was 80 mm so a little smaller

YOU ARE 100% CORRECT AND I APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT AND IT IS POSSIBLE. CAN WE REPLACE THE GEN PULLY WITH A SMALLER ONE WHICH WOULD MAKE IT TURN FASTER CAN OR WOULD THIS AFFECT THE OUTPUT VOLTAGE AT LOWER RPM'S. THIS FERGY IS A STANDARD ENGIN BECAUSE OF THE LAYOUT OF THE OIL FILTER AND COIL PLUS MY VIN 221267 INDICATES IT WAS BUILT IN 1951 AND THEY STOPED USING CONTINENTAL ENGINS IN 1948 AND FROM THEN ON THE TEA 20-89 (BIGGER ENGIN)WERE PRODUCED WITH THE STANDARD ENGIN IN COVENTRY ENGLAND.
