Does anyone have the proper procedure for setting valve lash on this motor,my book only shows valves ,nothing about TDC or which stroke to set them, thanks

I use the same procedure on all solid lifter engines. Some say it's time consuming, and it is, but 100% reliable.

Pull the plugs, turn the engine slowly through with a feeler gauge in the gap, find the loosest point and set it there. Keep turning it through until you are satisfied it's right, then move to the next one.

If this is a first start up after any reassembly, you'll want to start it up, let it run up to temperature, retorque the head if it was off, then set the valves again.

48fotd,To set the valves (engine cold)roll engine to TDC compression stroke number 1 cyl and set both valves.Them follow the Firing Order: 153624,roll engine over clock wise looking from the front till #5 is TDC,and adjust #5 valves, roll to #3 TDC and adjust #6,#2,then #4 the same way.Note re torquing the head will have no change of the valve settings on a flat head engine.
