fordson major blowing out white smoke

I have yet to try out advice for removing drain plug as lambing is taking priority .. I have been asked to fix a 1956 fordson major diesel that is blowing white smoke I thought it could be injector pump problem but someone said no it is head gasket or porous liner any advice from the other side of the pond..

If it is a head gasket or hole in a liner, it will usually pressurize the cooling system so you will get bubbles or pushing coolant. White smoke is usually not up to operating temp yet or low compression. Have the owners had it for a long time and know the tractor or just get it?

thanks for reply
the tractor has been on the farm since new and the appearance is still good and I will look at it soon but first he has an early 60's JCB which is also based on major tractor and over a year ago someone took the engine out to overhaul and that is how it is still so the farmer would like that finished first..

Interesting. I had never heard that JCB had come out of Fordson, but those sorts of things go on all the time.

Hi Showcrop
There is a very interesting story that goes along the line of fordson having supply problems to JCb, so Joe.C. Bamford decided enough and switched to
Nuffield and Leylands, before the later more component based 3c mk 3 and 3cx machines. What he did was invite ford high ups to the launch of the new
nuffield based machines, He had a hole dug in the factory floor and dropped a brand new fordson skid unit in and concreted over it, to show how mad he
actually was with them.
I don't know if it is still there or whether it was eventually dug up years later. But what ever happened it was a strong message for ford to
swallow.
Regards Robert

I don't know how bad it is but I would start simple and make sure it doesn't have a restriction in the fuel supply or sucking air. Good luck.
