I am new here and hoping to find some answers for repairing
my JD 3010 so thanks in advance for any input.
I have a hydraulic leak coming from the seal going into rock
shaft housing. I was hoping all I had to do was remove the
lifting arm and work the seal out and install new one. The
problem I am having is removing the lifting arm. I have applied
heat, tried puller and shocking with a hammer with lots of pb
blaster. Am I missing a step or is it just that froze on there.

seems like I did the same thing on the 2010 I had. How are you adding heat? Use and big rose bud tip, the faster you heat the outside the better. If you heat it slow the inner part will warm up. You want the inside cold and the outside hot. I think harbor freight has some cheap rosebuds.

I was using a cutting head that's all had at home I now got my rosebud from work so later today I will try again and update the results. Thanks for the reply it's been soaking with pb blaster over night hopefully this will work.

The shaft has a tapered end with splines and press fit to to the arm and kept tight with the bolt on the end. So yes it is just rusted in place. Use the biggest puller you can get along with some heat and tap the end of the bolt on the puller as you tighten it. With persistence it will come off. Then you should be able to replace the seal as you say.

Well you guys were right I just needed more heat and persistence broke one link on my puller but I got it off and the seal is now out. Here is a couple of pics for anyone else that may be curious. Any recommendations on a specific seal or just one from the JD house. Thanks again

PB blaster and other oils will just burn up, use wax when you heat stuff. It will melt into oil and stay a lot longer then any oil will. I did this on a large nut on a hydraulic cylinder. I gave up on it and the next day the nut screwed right of and the threads were covered in wax. I couldn't believe it. But I think the best is what you just found, a lot of heat fast.
