breaking rusted joints

I have been trying to break loose rusted 3-point hitch balls on a tractor that sat outside for a few years. I have tried WD40 without any success, but nothing else yet. I have thought about soaking in muriatic acid.

WD40 is a moisture displacement stuff not made to do what your trying to do. If I where you I would soak them in some ATF and I bet they will free up pretty fast

I use PB Blaster and/or ATF.
Like old said WD40 is not what you need as it stands for Water Displacement (mixture test) #40

I use KROIL Penetrating fluid. My experience from Power Engineering, steam, and all fasteners on the GE,J79 s and Rolls Royce Spey's Gas Generators.

I found a study a college did studying the torque required to break rusted fasteners loose after being soaked with different penetrants. Kroil was good but the best was a 50/50 mix of ATF & acetone. Worked great to break the engine loose in the 520 I redid. Oxalic acid is also very effective at dissolving rust...same family as vinegar & molasses which also work but slower. You can mix oxalic acid with corn meal to form a paste if needed. The quick & dirty approach is a torch & lots of heat.
