hydraulic problems still

I replaced the hydraulic pump on my 49 Farmal c but it is squealing or whining as soon as I start the tractor up. I do have water in the system. Could this be the problem? The system does work but as I raise the bucket it squeals louder. Ideas? I thought maybe the bucket is too heavy for the system but that doesn't explain the noise as soon as I start the tractor up. STRESS!!!!

Water does not compress. If it did, we could use it in place of hyd oil. Get rid of the water first.

Hydraulic oil does not compress. However, it does rust the inside of hydraulic systems. Air does compress, and is usually the source of hydraulic pump noise. It sounds like you either have an air leak on the suction side of the pump, or you have foaming hydraulic oil.

What's the big deal with the hyd. oil, holds 8 1/4 pts. plus what's in the loader, water won't work and sounds like its got air in it. Might be a good time to clean the screen to.

It does sound like air in the system.

A properly working system will self purge the air.

If the oil is foamy with air, let it set overnight, the air will rise up and out. That may be what you are seeing instead of water.

If it continues to get air in the system, causes are low oil level, too small reservoir (level dropping below suction pipe when the cylinders are fully extended), clogged suction strainer, air leak in the suction line.
