Low power in hydraulics

I just bought a John Deere 310A and the hydraulics do not seem to have the power they should. I am getting hung up on small roots it should power through. Any tips of how to check the pressure or anything else. I am brand new to this machine and just learning.

Have you checked the condition of the Hdy filter, it may be plugged up stopping the flow of oil to the pump. Complete parts diagrams available on the free JD online web site, just search for 310A their.

That was going to be my first check along with fresh fluid.
