I have a 1945 Farmall A equipped with an electric starter. I need to obtain a 6 volt battery for the starter. Can anyone recommend a suitable size/group/type of battery to use ?
Thanks.

Measure your battery box and then see if there's a 6 volt battery available to fit your battery box. Hal

Your choices are limited with the 6 volt. Most popular is called "group 1". Other than going with a much larger and more expensive truck battery, you're best staying with the group 1.

The highest CCA battery that will fit in the battery box .2/00 cables. Run the ground direct to a starter mounting bolt.

Even Autozone has a battery for the A. It is some standard size which I forget but it is a bigger battery and mine lasted since 2005 so far.Just measure you batt box dimensions . Most auto parts stores carry it.

If it helps my batt box is 9 1/2" x 9 high. So the length of the battery approx 9=9 1/4" and it sits down in the box and is not 9 high. The width of the batt box is 7 1/2" .

I just put a 6 volt Optima battery in y Farmall C. I also put one in one of my Allis Chalmers B's. I ordered both from Summit Racing. Both this summer so I don't have a lot of time on them to know it they take the bouncing around they are advertised to take. I made hold downs and installed the batteries corner ways in the battery trays.

It takes a com-1-hp battery which is 625 CCA and it will take up most of the space under gas tank were battery sets. If you put a battery maintainer on it when not in use the battery will last a long time.
