Lo boy 184 clutch problem

Put in new clutch, pressure plate, bearing. Can't seem to adjust fork movement enough to disengage clutch. Looks like bearing movement won't push hard enough on fingers. Any and all suggestions ?

Did you by chance install the clutch disk backwards?? If you did the clutch will not release and do just as yours is doing. Learned that one the hard way back when I was 16 and doing a clutch in a 1971 GMC

? how do i know which side goes to the pressure plate ?

Most new clutch disk say right on then flywheel side. If it has the set up on the disk with the springs on it if I remember right that side of the disk goes to the flywheel

Lo boy,Old don't remember right! It is no wonder he has put clutches in wrong, and still never learned. You would think if a person had to do it all over again he would remember that forever, let alone give advice to someone so they could make the same mistake.

The clutch plate goes with the spring side to the pressure plate

Why is it you have been attacking me over and over again at one time I thought you to be a friend. I have done so much with so many things it is hard to remember what is what unless I am right there hands on. I even looked in the I-T manual and it did not help me answer this so hey lay off please or explain why your no longer a friend. Or was it that you helped my son get home and you didn't get a thank you???????????????

When adjusting the freeplay in the pedal, will it adjust as usual, or is there still excess play at the
top?

If there is excess play at the top, something is wrong in the release mechanism. A loose pinch clamp,
sheared key, improper adjustment procedure, bad release fork, wrong release bearing, bearing improperly
installed, etc. You'll need all the stroke to get it to disengage with a new clutch.

If the freeplay is properly adjusted, and the clutch still won't disengage, there are several
possibilities.

The clutch disc could be in backward. Most have an offset side where the shock springs are located. If it's
in backward, the spring housing can hit the flywheel bolts and hold the disc in a bind.

When bolting the pressure plate cover to the flywheel, the bolts need to be drawn down equally. If not, the
plate will be warped. This can cause the clutch to drag and/or chatter when released. How was the flywheel
surface? If it was burned, warped, heat cracked, grooved, or greasy, the clutch won't release properly.

When the engine was splined back together with the transmission, was there any problem? It's never an easy
job, but if excess force was required, or the weight of the engine was allowed to rest on the clutch disc,
or the engine was forced in with the bolts, the disc or the pilot bearing could have been damaged.

And sometimes you just get a bad pressure plate... Especially with rebuilt or aftermarket parts.

I hate it when this happens, but it does... Just have to go back in and see what's up. Do you have a shop
manual? A good investment to make!
