Farmall 706 rear engine oil leak

I recently rebuilt a Farmall 706 with the C291 gas. The tractor got a complete engine rebuild from new sleeves on up. I also put in a new clutch and had the flywheel reground. After breaking in the engine I noticed an oil leak at the rear end of the engine. Now the engine got all new gaskets and new front and rear main seals. I would assume the leak is coming from the rear crank seal but I was wondering if anyone else had any guesses? I just don't want to split the tractor again so I would like input before I tear it apart.

A couple things to check... Be sure the leak isn't coming from above, like the valve cover gasket, under the head, oil line , etc. Make sure the crankcase ventilation is working, nothing clogged. How's the oil level? Too full can cause the rear main seal to leak.

Try to pinpoint the leak exactly before going back in. Remove covers, peek in with a light, mirror, bore scope. Nothing sadder than going back together and having the same problem!

I have had to re-split because of a poorly made aftermarket rear seal. Replaced it with a factory seal and the problem was solved.

Did ya put the rear rubber seals in alng side the rear main cap ??? bet ya did n't They are black about three maybe four inches long maybe a 1/4 inch in dia. and it helpd if ya have the installation tool . ya ca make it out of a 1/8 inch welding rod and bend a TEE handle on it and round and smooth the end you put inside the seals , lube them up with winner slider and shove them in ALL the way to there flat head touches the main cap . DO NOT CUT THE FLAT Head off of them . The head must be flush with the main bearing cap and block.

I am going to guess you may be right. The tractor was apart for about 3 months, as I took it apart before college started and then just put it back together here a few weeks ago. I may have forgot to put those in when it went back together. Would this require re-splitting the tractor or can you get the job done by dropping the oil pan off the tractor?
