Ford 4000 off timing?

I recently bought a early model Ford 4000(Diesel). Tractor will not start. Just put new injectors and injector pump on it. It will not puff smoke or anything. Just spins over without a lick. Could it be 180 out? I reset the valves to spec. Please help!

I paid $1000 (it is a select-o-speed) for it and it's not beat up or anything. Just hoping it would be a simple fix. Think it was a bad buy?

If no white vapor coming out the exhaust, it's not getting fuel.

Recheck the system for air, check the lift pump, check the kill solenoid or whatever shuts it down.

Might try pull starting if everything checks out, save the starter.

Seems to be getting fuel. That's why I'm stumped. Can you pull star a select-o-speed trans? Never owned one before.

Nope no way to pull start it. Will it try to run on starting fluid?? When you put on a new injection pump and injectors it takes a long time to bleed all the air out of the system and when you have air in the system you have a not start

Starting fluid doesn't change a thing when I try it. Flap on the exhaust doesn't even wiggle. So out of curiosity I put my hand over the top and its sucking in air (both exhaust and breather)

Air cleaner should suck in air but the exhaust while it will suck a little should not suck very hard. You may have a cam timing problem

I had a 641 that locked up the hyd pump once. The pump caused the key in the cam gear to shear and let the gear turn slightly on the shaft. it would run, but very poorly.

I would make sure when the engine is on TDC #1 that both valves are closed.

I'll check into that. When I timed the pump up I put it TDC and advanced it 18 degrees. Pump and everything went in perfect. But I recently heard it should be advance 23 degrees. Witch one is correct?

It could help if you posted how you bled it, and why it "seems" to be getting fuel. Always eliminate the easy stuff first. As Steve said, no white smoke, usually no fuel.

Is there FUEL in the Tank?
Is fuel getting to the Transfer pump?
Is there Fuel entering the FILTERS and exiting the FUEL filters?
Is there fuel getting to the high pressure FUEL INJECTION PUMP?
When several fuel lines are cracked/loosened off on the FUEL INJECTION PUMP, is there signs of fuel emitted from the fuel pump?
Is the FUEL SHUT OFF device at the FUEL PUMP enabled/turned on?
Is the hand throttle at least 1/2 > 3/4 open?
Is the hand throttle connected to the PUMP?
What make of FUEL INJECTION PUMP?
What make and model of ENGINE?

this a 4 cyl or 3 cyl? you say early 4000 so i am guessing 4 cyl.

At this point I'd pull the pushrod covers at least.. you might see bent push rots.. but I believe inthe end you will be pulling the valve cover too.. might have hung open valves.

Check compression first, if good, then think you might have air in the lines.

No smoke really means no fuel, should still smoke even if out of time.

After reading all the symptoms I would pull the valve cover and make sure exhaust valves are not stuck open.

'm with these guys no air moving out means no compression. must be in valve train
