Ford 3000 Backfire thru Carburator Air Horn

I'm servicing my Ford 3000 to repair from vandals. This old girl always ran good. I changed points, condenser, plugs and wires. Other repairs are unrelated. Upon trying to start I heard a loud POP! Looking closer I found the venting coming from the carburetor air horn. I read in other discussions this could be fuel mixture or vacuum related. Can someone explain in very simple terms how to confirm problem and point me in the right direction to repair. I'm a half blind and deaf novice so please excuse my mechanical ignorance. Thanks. :?

Fella's, that was it! I had wires two n' three crossed. She's running like her old-self. I need to start taking pictures when disassembling equipment. Thank you very much! :D
