I have a 1964 Oliver 1850 Diesel that I'm doing a minor restoration on. It runs on one 12 volt battery behind the dash. Whoever tried converting it over from 6 volt, cut all the wires to the lights, gauges, everything on the dash, and alternator. Maybe it worked at one time but not now. I've stripped everything out and am going to put a new wire harness in with new gauges. Being that all new parts are now 12 volt, what alternator do I need to make it work properly? Thanks.

It never was six volt. They ran two sixes in series to make 12 volts. There was one battery under the hood and one under the left step. Hook the positive on one battery to the negative on the other. It was negative ground. The way they were hooked, the positive from the battery under the hood went to the solenoid, the negative on that battery hooked to the positive on the battery under the step and the negative on that one went to ground.
