restoring an ih 2500 series a backhoe...help needed,

Hello all, lets start here,i am a mechanic/bodyman,painter,electrical tech..20 years in the automotive industry, self employed...Bought a nonoperational ih industrial backhoe..i already have it running on its own..driving and operating, even steers now...Been going over this entire machine top to bottom,,i have an issue,,the backhoe swung to one side and i cannot get it to move ,i am trying to figure out is there a way to manually move it,,my boom hose has a blown line, but that shouldnt affect swing,,my ateering and swing are on the same pump, there is no valve to isolate steering and swing...and how in the world do i post pics of my machine,..thank you in advance

Hydraulics can be difficult and messy to diagnose.

I'm assuming this uses a cylinder/cylinders to swing the boom?

When operating the valve, do you hear the pump load? If not, the fluid is probably freeflowing back to tank, which would indicate a blown internal cylinder seal, or the piston has come off the rod, especially if the cylinder only wants to extend and not retract.

If there are 2 cylinders, any chance the hoses have been switched on one and they are fighting against each other? Sense it was working before the steering was disturbed, possibly something found it's way into the swing valve and is holding it off center?

Really the only way to diagnose hydraulics is to start taking lines loose and seeing what is happening. Need to be very observant, fluid can back flow from the return circuit and through leaking seals on another cylinder and lead to misdiagnosis. Imagine all the possibilities!

The swing has 2 of the cylinders mounted inside the boom,,i cracked both lines and hit the swing lever and both hoses spit out fluid,,,the hoses are in correct position,i drove the tractor, parked it,came back the next morning and the boom swung all the way to the right rear overnight by itself, weird, must of been an air pocket....now the boom cylinder hose has a major leak,im getting a new hose today..i dont know if air could cause these problems, but ithink it could...or a clogged filter or low fluid,,there is no dipstick(it broke and elbow was welded shut i can see),,i tookoff the linkage cover and stuck a lone screwdriver in the trans case,,i have no clue how high from the bottom the fluid should be,,it was like 6 inches high on the screwdriver....trying to post pics, but its saying they are too large..Also i replced power steering lines(there was no steering at all,now there is,but itswhining a bit andthe seal u der steering wheel is leaking a little bit..

i definetly dont hear a load when swing lever is hit in either direction,i hear a load on every other loader and hoe lever operation.im trying to change the filter but i dont know which valve to take out to not lose all the fluid..i know there is a valve that will keep fluid in except for filter fluid, just dont know which one it is..manuals are impossible to get for this machine,,it has the same system as a case 585 as far as thr steering and hoe swing...One more thing,,the one out rigger is off right now for repair,,the lines are butted together,,i dont think that is good should be plugged off i would think, not butted together..not sure...and Steve thank you very much for your reply ,i really do appreciate any advice.

On the old 3444 both the swing and steering were powered by the little pump on the side of the engine. But there was a selector valve off to one side of the operator. You either had one function or the other, but not both.

This machine is different in that aspect, basically the same except there is no valve to separate the steering and swing...i cant even find the year, its a 2500 series A Industrial...having a hard time with pics, they wont load.

I thought the 2500 was a much different machine. That looks a lot like the old 3444 we had. You would sit low, straddling the trans. to drive it, then step up around and set up on the hoe seat/platform to dig. Levers on your sides. I preferred that arrangement over the one I have now with the levers out in front of me. I still think there has to be a selector valve somewhere if the steering and swing are operated off the same pump.

There were 3 different 2500s ,,this is the series A,,,the mcv has no selector switch ,trust me i rather have a switch to separate the 2,lol...i am trying to upload a pic i have the whole seat section off now,,starting to get it ready for paint ,gonna do the wheels this weekend, just stripped them and replaced a blown boom hose earlier..Its a gas motor which i like,,sooooo easy to work on and she starts on first try everytime,no smoke,no choke,no pumping gas...

When i hit the swing levers with the fittings cracked fluid shoots out each direction of swing lever,,im wondering if filter is clogged or fluid is low...the hoe boom line was blowing about 2 quarts of fluid as soon as i hit raise and would only go up an inch and drop(lost presdure blowing out fluid..just replaced the line earlier, but im going to do the filters before wasting more fluid just to dump it back out for a filter change...it does look very similiar to the 3444 except for that steering/swing setup and its a different 4cylinder gas job..a c200 engine.

Mine has all serial plates on it,,loader is a 3050,,,hoe is a 3142 and it has a 3100 swing on it...i did notice some dipper sticks are shorter and the loader is heavier structured
