Farmall Paint

My first restoration project is a Farmall Super H. Where is the best place to get Farmall red paint from? Should I buy paint from the IH dealer near me or is there a better place to get it? I am also considering clear coating the tractor. Would I benefit from doing so?

I just got back from Mount Pleasant, the trend is moving away from clear coat and towards urethane paint. I would use urethane paint and mix in 1/2 clear urethane on the final coat.

If you want the best paint I would get the color number and have automotive paint made. http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Paint,%20Decals%20&%20Other%20Finish%20Questions/Farmall%20Paint%20Chart%20-%2001.htm Red paint is particularly bad to fade and automotive paints are made to prevent this.

This question comes up about every three weeks. The usual answer is that the paint sold at dealers is lower quality, and won't look as good or last as long. You see quite a few pink Farmalls around, you probably would like yours to stay red.

(quoted from post at 10:05:54 09/06/15) I'd use IH 2150 with hardener. Good gloss, resists scratcing.

IH 2150 has a very nice gloss even without the hardener, and even better, it IS the correct color.

I wouldn't trust Fiat to stock the right color for IH any more than for Ford. I prefer to find the right color then get it digitally analyzed, and reproduced.

IH 2150 and hardener.

Linking to that site has been like that for years now. Don't know why, other that YT wants you to buy their manuals as opposed to providing free information.
