Ford 9 n 3 point problems works sometimes

Hello I am new to this forum and to tractors. But I got my first and love it 1940 ford 9n. I got it not running so changed all fluids and put a back blade on it and started to work it seemed fine at first but now the 3 point won't always lift and sometimes won't go down while running does any one have a idea why thanks for any info

1, pto has to be engaged and turning to have hyds.

2, if you lift the 3pt handle and the pto is turning, and lift won't go up, pull the inspection cover and make sure the control fork is moving the T valve full in and out... they do hang. ( dirt, grit, etc. )

(quoted from post at 09:02:01 09/01/15) As Chris points out, a sticky control valve is the usual culprit.

Awesome will defiantly check it out cause when I got it there was water and sludge that I drained out. So maybe left over sludge could cause it to work some of the time intermittenly what would be the best fix

Jeff(OH) published a method in the Ferguson Forum on a method he uses to clean the sump. You might look for that in the archives. Other wise reaching in WITH THE ENGINE NOT RUNNING and exercising the control valve by hand may work some crud out and cause it to work the way it should.

best fix is drop the pump and clean.. otherwise flush it out best you can without disturbing hte heavy stuff, and get the valve working.

I use diesel and atf and alcohol as a flush.

Thank you guys very much for all the ideas. Thought had it going last night worked good with no load not so good with a load I will get that valve cleaned sounds like the problem

If the control valve has pits in it from water being in the sump, nothing will keep it from sticking. They have a polished finish when new. Been down that road before. Spend $20.00 to replace it and end the aggrevation.
