Power steering pump overhaul: gear grease?

Hi,
Should I grease the gear at the rear of the pump before I put it back into the engine block. When I took the pump off there was no grease on either gear. Thanks.

(quoted from post at 10:07:44 08/26/15) Won't hurt, but the gear should pick up enough oil from the cam gear, or whatever drives it.

That's the thing; the gear it connects to/drives it, is bone dry.

Not sure what engine, but if the gears are running dry, an oil gallery drain must be plugged restricting oil flow to the gearset. May be a good
idea to look a little deeper.

What tractor are we playing with?

I am thinking perhaps the pump has spines and plugs into an accessory drive???

Apologies, I had been intending to add a signature with the tractor details but I dont think that's possible.
Anyway it's a Massey Ferguson MF240 1979, Perkins D3.152 with an early type kidney shaped steering pump (pre-hydrostatic I think).
