I just bought a 59 diesel 560 a week or two ago and the power steering doesn't work. I've tried reading through other forums and I've read about a relief valve and my dad thinks I need a new hydraulic pump. I don't know where to start. Any input would helpful! Thank you!

Do any other hydraulic functions work?If so then check for any mechanical problems such as binding steering linkage. Then go after hydraulic steering components. You should have a service manual, would help a lot.If no other hydraulics work then check pump and work your through troubleshooting rest of hydraulic system.

Is the pump squealing? I had no power steering on mine, changed the fluid and filter and it didn't help much. I pulled the pump and found that the seal on the little tube on the pickup of the pump was bad. Replaced it and the steering works great now.

That tractor has TWO pumps on it.

I would start with a shop manual and do some testing, familiarize yourself with how the system works.

Pumps and steering components are way too expensive to be guessing and parts changing!
