Tire repair or maintenance

I have a 1941 Massey-Harris 81 and the rear tires were changed in 1960. The sidewalls are now cracking and leaking air. We have never used fluid in the tires so the rims are in good shape. Installed a tube in the worst tire just a few days ago and I suspect that the tube was pinched during installation because it went flat again yesterday. Does anyone know of a restorative and/or repair product for this problem. There is little tread wear on the tires and the 9? X 34 tires are hard to find.

Putting a tube in is the only thing a guy can do. There is nothing you can use to make a tire like that hold air other then a tube

You are wasting your time and money. The tube will get pushed out the crack, pinched, and holed. Unless you can get some sort of boot that will line the whole inside of the tire to hold the tube in.

5 years is pretty respectable for a set of tires.(nothing last forever)
I think you ought to buy new ones or a pair of more youthful tires

If you reread what he said he say the tube got pinched when they where installing the tube not pinched by a crack or hole in the tire

I don't need to reread it, young fella. I am talking about future whether it is a day or a year, not what has already happened. As you are fond of saying BTDT, I bought some old tires for one of my pullers because they were very desirable despite being old. I got a season and a half before the tube pushed out through a crack, got pinched and I had a flat.

Shoot I have tires on more then one machine that I was told to replace years ago or even a decade plus and I'm still running them and they have yet to go flat on my

ust because you got lucky don't mean everybody else will too.
If the crack extends all the way trough the tire wall it [b:a90976b835]will[/b:a90976b835] result in a flat sooner than later

Hi
If you got air coming out the actual walls or between the treads of the tire, rather than just right round the bead or valve stem. I think you should be buying new tires pinching due to rubbing or flexing will be a problem soon if not now. I got a 10 year old tire here on a tractor, it started breaking up internally( no visible damage outside) and rubbing the tube causing flats.

when we found the rub hole in the tube we internally patched the tire at that rub spot and repaired the tube. did that a few times with flats and checked all the tire and patched the next suspect spot we found to while there. Now we are at the point if it does it again of buying a pair of matched new 18.4 34 radial rears for over $3000.
If it was me i'd be taking it apart and finding the hole, no snake oil potions going to really help you. Mark the valve stem position on the tire before you take it off, so you can blow the tube up, line things up to inspect the tube/ tire or rim for damage in the same area as the hole. Then you should be able to tell if it pinched putting it on or if the tire or small rust patch on the rim caused it at a problem area.

The other thing is cheap made in China or Korea tubes being junk and failing very quickly. See the comments recently here on the forum boards for that. I have had 2 here in the last while one drove 300 ft and went flat standing. I know it was fitted right the tire was perfect inside and the valves not leaking, the other lasted 2 months and went down with cheap tube problems.

I have had good luck with liners in a Ford for about 40 years.
I boot the big cracks and use liners.

Use the damaged tube to cut patches, and patch the inside of the tire where it is cracked on the inside of the sidewalls with rubber cement. I feel the same about a 50 year old set of 16.9x34 Safemark tires that still have decent tread and want to get at least another year out of them before I spend $1500 on new ones. Make double sure there aren't sharp edges on the rim.
