charge light

I bought a 631 and it was converted to
12v.....it has a one wire alternator. Have
any of you hooked up the charge light with
a one wire alternator and how did you do
it/can it be done?

I have no experience with a 631, but may be able to help.
Is the 1 wire alternator a Delco SI type ? If so, connecting a gen light should not be much of a problem.

If your 631 has the typical 2 wire generator light, where one wire from the light goes to switched power from the ignition switch, the other wire connected to ground through the generator to complete the circuit and make the gen light glow when you turn on the ignition.
You need to find that gen light wire that went to the regulator GEN or ARM terminal, and connect it to the alternators #1 regulator terminal.

The best way to connect to the alternator is to get a Delco alternator harness repair plug from an auto parts store and connect you generator light wire to the #1 (usually small white wire)terminal in the alternator regulator plug.

If done correctly, when you turn on the ignition switch, it will feed 12V to one gen light wire and the alternators #1 terminal will ground the other wire, completing the circuit so the gen light glows. When you start the tractor and the alternator starts to charge, the alternator #1 terminal will change from a ground to 12V power.
Now both the ign switch and alternator are feeding 12V to both gen light wires, so no power can flow through the gen light and it no longer glows.
The light will work as intended as a charge indicator.

Should be no need for the #2 wire as the "1 wire" regulator senses voltage internally.

The company that supply the "1 wire" regulators I use to build "1 wire" Delco 10SI alternators, inclosed a little instruction sheet in the box of regulators stating that if you want the 1 wire alternator to excite at lower rpm or want a charge light, just attach the light wire to the alternator #1 terminal.
