Hello this is my first time using a forum so I hope this is ok. I have a ford 4610 year unknown. I've replaced the alt and external regulator yet it still will not charge. The dash light works and all the circuits test ok but idk what voltage should be present at the field and regulator terminals I really don't know what's wrong please help

I'm assuming this has a factory Autolite alt and regulator.

If so with the ignition on, the field and stator terminals on the back of the alternator should show about 12v with a volt meter. Testing with a test light the stator may glow dim, but should have some voltage.

The battery terminal should have battery voltage at all times.

At the regulator, with the plug connected:

I- Power with the ignition on.
A- Battery voltage all times.
S- Some power with the ignition on.
F- Regulated power as needed. With the ign on, should get battery voltage until battery is fully charged.

Running, RPM up off idle, across the battery should get 13.5 to 15 v.

Some alternators like to be revved quite high before they will start charging, be sure you're not stuck behind that problem.

yes all parts are ford oem. Tests were done with a test meter. With just power to the
regulator the other three wires all read 12vdc when I hook ground to alt I get 2.7vdc on
the regulator wire and .7vdc on the field wire. Then I start tractor and nothing happens
. The field doesn't go up to cause a charge nor does the regulator wire ramp up to bat
voltage. Also there is not bat temp sensor on this model. Field is set by the external
regulator. Thank u for your help.

Check the I and A terminals at the regulator. With ign on, both should have battery voltage. If you unplug the regulator and jump A to F, the alt should charge. That will prove the alt to be good. Be sure the regulator case is grounded. If it still doesn't charge, the regulator could be defective.

Thank you I will try that when u say the I A and F terminals what are u referring to? Also do I disconnect the regulator from the wiring harness or from the alt to preform these tests

erminals A,F are present on both the alternator and the regulator (I on the regulator) and are Ignition, Auxiliary, Field.
