is thermostat necessary for new radiator on 8N used only occasionally?

The thermostat has no effect on the radiator.

Running without a thermostat is more detrimental to the engine and fuel economy. An engine run cold tends to
carbon up more, and retains moisture and sludge in the crankcase, which in turn depletes the corrosion
inhibitors in the oil. Even though it may only be run occasionally, the condensation in the oil never sleeps!
