Dumber Question

Ok, I see the reasoning for chaining the 3 pt when using the hyd of an N tractor to
operate a loader. The question is, would it work by just letting the 3 pt raise to top?
Maybe letting it raise, then stuff a wood block under the lift arms?
Dangerous as it might be, I just had a thought. Could blow the end off the internal lift cylinder before lifting the loader. Is the end of the cylinder a weak spot?
Tnx

The fluid would still leave the cylinder although the arms would still be up. Also when the cylinder has reached its limit fluid does not flow to the cylinder. Just continue to chain the arms down. I should add that the N series are POOR loader tractors because there is not enough strength in the front axle pivot and no power steering, but they certainly beat using a pitchfork. When I worked for Ford we sold a lot of Superior loaders and used the tractor's lift system. We would go to the hardware store and get short pieces of chain and some 3/8 inch plumbing fittings and a gate valve to hold the loader in the raised position.

Willie, ain't no dumb questions on here! Long as you're earnestly seeking a solution, ask away! LOL

Another concern with using the internal pump is it is going to have low volume for a loader, everything is going to work in slow motion.

Your best bet is to find a used set up with all the valves, lines, mount, adapter, and pump that preferably you could disassemble yourself. That way you see how it came apart and will know that you got everything to put it back. Hydraulic components are expensive if bought new, and many variables to consider to get it right.

Thanks for the replies, pretty much answered my question.
But to set the record straight, I don't have a Ford, was just curious.
I have an Allis CA. It is set up with a 3 spool valve, fed directly from the pump, handle always in "up" position. One spool feeds the boom, second valve controls bucket, third valve controls snap coupler. Return line goes to hyd filler port.
