1978 case david brown 995

Well, I just bought a 1978 Case 995 for 1500 bucks. K noticed it was a bit loud when running. The oil pressure was around 20 pounds when at an idle. I only ran it for a max of 10 minutes. I changed all fluids and filters. However yesterday out of curiosity I pulled the pan to look at the guts. Well, I found the thrust washers in the pan with a gob of shavings. But this is where it gets bad...... the PO apparently ran it for a lllooonnnggg time like this. Its ground the thrust bearing groove off the main cap, that can be replaced, however it also ground the groove from the block. So I need to know if I can run a half thrust on that main or if there is another fix. I'm a very knowledgeable mechanic. Cert. Diesel mechanic, cert. Welder, machinist, if there is anyway to fix this PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!!

What do you have to lose? Nothing against the DBs, I used to have an 885, but unless you have a real lot of work planned for it, considering its age and what you have in it, It would be hard to justify doing what you would need to do to get the upper half in there in a meaningful way.

Well, all km going to be doing with it is some mold brush hog'n. And just keeping it around the farm.
I was up a lot last night just trying to figure out ways to fix it but I can't come up with much that I feel would work for a while. It would be almost impossible to weld on because of the oil soaked cast block. K would really appreciate some more opinions.

I found the same thing had happened on a cockshutt tractor with a 4-53 detroit i had bought some years ago.
I first had the cranks trust area reground, I then machined a brass trust ring to fit.
I cut the ring in half and pinned both halves with 3 brass pins to the main cap and the block. I hammer tapered both mating areas of the half rings to make up for the material removed by saw cut and cross grooves in the crank contact area for oil to get between. The front trust washer is still original as it had no damage.
I put 2500 hrs on this engine since...no issues.
This tractor is running my baler so it sees lots of clutch work.

I am by no means a certified welder/ machinist/ mechanic.
I am just a jack of all trades

The reason the thrust failed is because the previous owner did not put the PTO shift lever in neutral and then move the pto clutch lever back to the engauged position.when not using the pto., so it was rideing the thrust bearings all the time. I think you could get decent service out of a half thrust, if you operate the pto correctly. How are the wrist pins and piston skirts?

PS down on Case DB board there is a resident DB guru, RG Martin.

Thanks for the reply bud. Well the piston skirts look great. Pilots are good. After looking at everything today I'm just a bit concerned if I can get another main cap to lone up correctly. I know the crank journals are probably lone bored with the caps tightened to speck. So I'm afraid if I get another cap it will not line up correctly.
However, today I found a few motto blocks for a hundred bucks a piece. However he doesn't have a 995. He has a 990, 1212, and another but I can remember what it was. So I'm wondering what blocks I could use to put all my guts from my motor into another. So if anyone has any impute on this idea please let me know.
