my starter on my cub is having trouble engaging the teeth of the flywheel. when I split the tractor the teeth were rounded down on the back side. my question is this...can the ring that has the teeth be separated from the flywheel body and flipped so the good teeth will be facing backwards towards the starter gear? I wanted to avoid having to buy a new ring or flywheel..thanks

What you propose has been done, but a new ring gear (#251270R2) can be had for about $50 from ebay and other sources, so why risk trouble and another "split" if it doesn't shrink back tight to the flywheel, or the starter doesn't engage correctly with the non-beveled teeth on the backside of the ring gear?

I always flip the ring gear over after grinding a slight bevel to kinda match the factory bevel. However flipping or buying a new ring gear still needs to have the cause found or you will get to do it again sooner than you would like. Most of the time a bad ring gear is caused from a bad starter bendix and gear.
