1939 Case DC-4

I bought a 1939 Case DC and finally got it running. The Gen is bad so that needs fixing but my question is this: Looking at the rear end, what do I need to attach a 3 point mower deck to this? I know there isn't a 3 point hitch installed but can I even attach one?

I love Case tractors.1939 Dc-4 would be a cool ANTIQUE
tractor to own.But I hate to tell you. You could have not
bought a worse tractor to try and mount a 3pt on.

There is no hydraulic system on a 39. You would have to
mount a hydraulic pump off the belt pulley or off the
front of the crankshaft.
If it has a mechanical power lift on the PTO. You might be
able to adapt a mower to fit.

There is no 3pts available for a 39 DC. You will have to
build your own from scratch.

I recommend getting a pull type mower or buying a tractor
with a 3pts. I think Ford 600_800 series work the best.

Don't give up just yet. Try posting this question on the Case forum. I'd bet there's
several who can help you out, and don't forget to ask for pictures. Include one of yours
in the post, that will help.

I have a hydraulic system. There are quick disconnects and an actuator with plugs at both ends.

Here are some pictures. There is a hydraulic actuator but it's not hooked up--it's plugged at both ends.

That's not a 39 model. The hydraulic system and the ribbed fenders would make it a 1949-51. A 1939 DC is a lot different. A 1939 has a base mounted magneto with the generator between the magneto and governor on the right side of the engine. There is no hydraulic system on a 39.

Some guys down in the Case forum have rigged up mower hitches to work off the lift bail.

The tool box looks like it could be off a 39.The serial number plate should be on the dash under the battery. Only the early D models 39 up to 41 or 42 had a tag on the tool box.

A very nice looking DC. I would like to find one that nice. I would replace that rubber boot on the gear shift lever. Your transmission will get full of water.

Good point. I did check the serial number off of the plate that was on the tool box. I'll check the number off the block

The spark plugs on a 39 would thread into the engine horizontally. Later models had plugs that angled upwards like yours do.

That hydraulic actuator is actually a hydraulic pump unit which can connect to a double-acting cylinder. When you actuate the control lever, the fluid goes out one hose and into the other. The hydraulic sump is inside the rear casting. The pump unit is not live on your tractor, you will need to engage the PTO to make it work.

I finally got to check the serial number and it start with 55--that makes it a 51. Nice call, thanks for setting me straight.

There is a pump but the unit on the left side of the picture is an actuator. I'm going to get some hoses hooked up and see if the pump and actuator works.
