I have a Yanmar 2200 tractor that needs valve replacement. After hours of searching I found possibly the only valves available in the world at this time and ordered them from a company that offers old tractor parts.
The tractor is a Japanese model that was classified as “grey market” after they became so popular and were banned for import in the US because they were outlasting and outperforming US models for repair and maintenance in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. The last new valves were sold in 1983 so only used valves are available.
The machinist doing the head work tells me the valves I order (which were pulled from a Yanmar 2200 head) are a different size than the (broken) valve currently in the tractor.
The current (broken) valves measure .3625 inches at the stem width and 1.322 inches at the valve head width. He says that those measurements do not coincide with any standard valve measurement.
The used valves I purchased measure .3535 inches at the stem width and 1.349 inches at her valve head width. They are a standard valve measurement (9mm). The parts supplier said they came from an old model Yanmar 2200.
The (smaller) replacement parts fit sloppily into the current valve guides and we cannot find any replacement valve guides that will fit the smaller (.3535 inch) valve stems. The valves are useless without valve guides to fit.
I need some valves that measure .3625 inches at the stem and 1.322 inches at the head for a Yanmar 2200 or a way to fit the smaller .3535 inch valves into the current head.
Please help.
