I have a 1970's John Deere 410 backhoe and the hydraulic hose that raises the backhoe boom cylinder broke. The hose goes up into the boom. It there any way to replace the hose without removing the backhoe boom from the tractor?
Thanks

I had the same problem about 2 years ago.
You don't need to remove the boom.
I'm going to assume you can't move the machine.
Here is how I did mine.
Get a field repair fitting from a hydraulic shop. this will let you splice the blown hose in order to position the boom for repair.
Where the hose blew, Cut hose back, with cut off wheel, clean the
Boom end hose, install the field fitting. Remove the end
Of the hose that attaches to the tractor and attach the new hose
To the field fitting. This should allow you to now move the machine. If you have an area that you can extend the boom
Down into a ditch or a lower point then the tractor, it eases removal. Position tractor on flat ground
Swing boom all the way to left or right. Extend dipper and bucket all the way out. Extend outriggers to the ground but don't lift tractor. Block tractor wheels.
Block boom to take all of The weight off off boom cylinder.
Move hoe controls to remove pressure. Remove any brackets holding the hoses in boom. Double check everything
To be sure it is safe to be removing boom cylinder pins. Get someone who has mechanical ability to help you with this...these things are heavy.
Suupport boom cylinder by sliding some wood underneath cause it
is heavy. Unbolt and begin driving out cylinder pin in upper
Boom section.if the pin doesn't drift out easy, you have too much
Weight on the boom and you have to get the weight off of the boom and onto the blocks. Once the upper pin is out. Start the tractor And retract the boom cylinder to its shortest position. Drive out pin of the tractor end of the boom cylinder. Remove boom cylinder, it is heavy...and replace all hoses entirely. You don't want to have to do this again. Grease pins before reinstalling...Reverse steps to put it back together. This is how a friend who was a Deere mechanic told me how to do it. Stay safe.
