Ford 5000 transmission noise

I have a ford 5000 1969 model 8 speed, when on the highway when the tractor is free spinning ( not pulling not holding back) there is a chater in the front of the transmission. Tractor mechanic told me to draw a gallon of the trans fluid out and replace it with 80w-90. When I did this I opened drain plug on belly of tractor to do so, there was quite bit of shavings in the fluid at first maybe 1/8 to 1/4 ounce but cleared up after few moments. The Tractor mechanic who services all our equipment said no use tarring down till something breakes. This is a nice 5000 I recently bought on a grade scale 1 to 10 it be a high 8 condition wise. But bye the look of the tires it was drove on highway a lot. Also when I replaced fluid I started the tractor with filler cap off and it sounded like there was friction in the trans. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciate I like this tractor a lot and wouldn't trade it for a new model.
Thanks
Nathan

Any guess as to what the shavings could be? The symptoms you describe sound like bearing failure. Do any of
the pieces look like remains of a bearing cage?

Really, it's up to you as to when and what to do. Might go ahead and run it, keep an ear on it. If it doesn't
get worse keep running it, maybe make it through the season before going in after it. By then you'll get a
better feel for the condition of the rest of the tractor, can then go in and correct anything else while it's
down.

.

I though bearing as well there are no problems with gears, the shavings are small flakes the size of pin head or smaller. I have no knowledge of transmission, I m queries to input I don't want something small to turn to something big. I downloaded a shop manual but it on gives me super major and dual power trams this tractor is a 69 and doesn't have the dual power switch. But I notice in all diagrams there are release bearings on the main shaft and a anti rattle spring. When the tractor makes the noise it sounds like a rattle or nocking inside the case.
