3020 John deere ignition problem

I recently bought a 3020 gas burner , someone had made an attempt to convert from a generator to an alternator on this tractor , I rewired the entire system and put the generator and regulator back on , positive ground , bought a new OEM ignition switch , and when I hook the wire that goes from the terminal on the ignition switch marked " F " to the terminal on the generator marked " GEN " the tractor will not shut off , even when I disconnect the battery cables , if I do not install the wire mentioned to the switch , the ignition switch works like it should . Any advice is much appreciated...

"when I hook the wire that goes from the terminal on the ignition switch marked " F " to the terminal on the generator marked " GEN " the tractor will not shut off"

WHAT ever gave you the idea of connecting a wire from the ignition switch directly to the generator in the first place?

The generator connects to the voltage regulator, NOT the ignition switch!

There IS, however, a connection from the ignition switch through the charge indicator light "idiot light" to the "ARM" terminal at the voltage regulator.

Also, I'm trying to remember what the meaning would be of a terminal on the ignition switch marked "F"... I need to look that up.

I actually hooked it to the terminal on the REGULATOR marked GEN ....not the generator ... I followed the schematic from the repair manual .. I did find my problem however ... Bad idiot light.
