57 ferguson compression questions

I have just recently finished a rebuild of
the engine on my 1957 Ferguson to35.and
after honing the cylinder walls replacing
the rings turning the crank and a full head
job also replace the governor and rebuild
the carb.she runs nicely but I did a
compression test and I am just wondering if
these numbers are acceptable cylinder 1 70
psi cylinder to 100 psi cylinder 3 90 psi
and cylinder four 90 psi. the engine is a
continental z 134

The 70 PSI sounds a little low compared to the others. Question is, why? Are there any other problems? Like poor idle, that is where low compression would show.

Some things to look for:
Puffing smoke out the breather tube would indicate leaking rings.

Chugging at the exhaust would be a leaking valve.

Overheating, blowing coolant out the radiator cap or exhaust would be a head gasket.

If it's not showing any of these symptoms, possibly it was just a bad test. Might reset the lifters, always a good idea after having the head off. If there is a problem it will eventually show itself.

Make sure that your valves are closing! If you just rebuilt the engine your pressures should be > 125 psi unless you are high altitude.
