Allis B camgear no oil holes????

Ok so Ive been in the process of rebuilding my '39 B and I have gotten to the point where everything on the engine is coming together well until I started thinking about the front cover and lubrication for the gears/gov assembly. This particular tractor sat out in the elements for 25+ years with no covers on the exhaust manifold. Needless to say water got in there, froze and blew out the #3 cylinder sleeve, and the block was cracked. So I have done a full rebuild on it and the cam, crank, and cylinders are good to go. Point being the cam gear that cam off the old engine had four little oil holes between the teeth Im assuming to lube the gears and slosh around up in the gov housing. Also that gov housing didn't come with the tiny oil link attached to the top of said housing. THIS is where my curiosity is....if the cam gear I installed doesn't have those little holes can I have a machinist drill them out and be ok?? Or do I find a different gov housing with the later style oil tube?? In any case since it came without the oil tube anyway, how did the gov thrust bearing and bushing for that shaft get lubricated? Please if anyone knows this info would be very helpful. Attached is a pic of what the original gov housing looks like. Thanks!!

The early B's did not have the lube line going to the governor housing. The oil flowing over the lifters onto the camshaft gear was thought to be enough oil following the teeth up to the top governor gear. I have two 1938 B's and when rebuilding did not see excessive wear. Allis must have rethought this and added the oil line. The old pin will pull out so you could make a pin to screw an oil fitting on if you wanted. Looking at your picture though you might want to buy a newer governor cover with the threaded pivot pin and oil hole.

Very cool. Thank you for the knowledge. On your B's did you happen to notice if your cam gears had those little oil holes between the teeth?

Actually I do not know what holes you are talking about. I have never seen any holes between the teeth of any B timing gears.
