John Deere 900hc help

Trying to get my families 900hc started for spring clean up. I had it up and running at the beginning this week but it will not start now. I believe a handyman that was at my house tried to mess around with it and it appears that he hooked the battery up backwards. I took a different battery, charged it up overnight but the tractor still won't go. There is no click and no lights on the dash upon turning the key. checked all the fuses and wires, nothing seems burnt or destroyed. I even hooked the tractors leads right up to a car starter and still couldn't get power anywhere. I am an automotive student with limited diesel experience so if anyone knows something silly that I overlooked or anything else that I can check, it would be greatly appreciated!

Well, if you understand how a basic automotive battery/electrical system/starter works this little diesel is no different!

If the battery REALLY was connected backwards, since it has an alternator charging system, the smoke was let out of SOMETHING, even if it just was a fuse!

Check for power at the starter with a test light, if battery power there, check at the fuse block. Obviously any fuse that has power at one side needs to have power at both sides.

I believe Deere had a fusible link in the red wire from the switch to the starter
I have a PDF of the 950 tech manual, that's pretty much what the 900 came from.
It has the wiring and trouble shooting in it. Shoot me your email if wanted
