560 seasonal disconnect- or where it was

I recently purchased a 1960 Farmall 560. In the process of cleaning up general leaks, and I replaced a gasket under a cover that in the book says it is in the place of a "seasonal disconnect"....directly behind the cover for the PTO driven gear in the TA portion of the case. On each side of this plate there is a hole that is about 1/2" in diameter. The hole on one side has the end of a pin/bolt visible. the other side was covered by oil/gunk, and I used a pick hook to clean it out. I can shove a screwdriver all the way up into the case from this hole, and I did pull some gunk with metal shavings out of it.
Can anyone tell me:
1. what it's for?
2, what should be in it?
3. Is oil from the case suppose to be free to come out of this hole? (it appears that it has been)

I should mention that this hole is not threaded, and the hole cannot be felt by my hand when the earlier mentioned cover is removed.

Any insight is appreciated!

I have a Farmall 656 so I was curious. Google search shows:

What is a seasonal disconnect for SMTA

Kevin Just wondering if anybody knows what a seasonal disconnect is and how to activate it.
Red It disconnects the drive for the pto when not needed for long periods. I think to save on wear. You remove the cap screw move the lever rearward so second hole is in line with tapped hole & put screw in.

Don't know if it applies.
