Farmall M engine knock

I have a Farmall M and it has a knock that comes and goes but worse on a cold start. Thought it was rod bearings and I replaced them and still the same knock. Sounds like it's coming from the right side of the block maybe number one or two cylinder. Any ideas to get me going the right way to fix this? Thanks

I tried that before and I can't seem to hear a difference. The more I been running it with the fresh oil change the better it is sounding. Maybe a oil passage plugged and something not getting oil? Might need to do a engine flush.

I had a similar knock in my M on the same side - turned out to be the push rods for the valves had a couple of bent ones. They were bent just enough to be hitting the opening they rode in. Its not a big deal to take off the valve cover and valve train and pull them out. Its obvious if they are bent.

Have you checked the bolt in the front pulley? Might take the belt off to eliminate it being the water pump rattling. While the belt is off, use the "screw driver stethoscope" method to better locate the noise.

A knock that diminishes as the engine comes up to temp can indicate a loose piston, or a cracked skirt. If the oil pressure is good it's probably not in the bottom end.
