WD thremostat from YT

Has anyone successfully used one of the new thermostats from YT (Part No: 70229927) on a WD or WD-45? The one I received doesn't fit the housing properly.

Update: I got around this problem by cutting a groove into the brass adapter. Now it can compress inward into the thermostat housing as the bolts are tightened, same principal as the gap in a piston ring.

On a slightly different note, the thermostat housing leaks past the gasket. I used a paper gasket covered on both sides with permatex hi-tack, but it leaks even with no pressure in the cooling system. Is it a better idea to use a 1/16" cork gasket with maybe some silicone on either side to seal it? Any suggestions?

Aftermarket parts are hit/miss doesn't seem to matter who sells them. Apparently the word "fits" has a lot of different meanings to a lot of different companies. Misrepresentation of a product by a company was, at least at one time, against our laws. Whether in my auto body/sheetmetal bussiness or mechanical parts, I couldn't start to imagine the money / time I have lost in the last 30 yrs because of mis-represented parts from the aftermarket. Best you can do is report it to the seller and hope they make their supplier aware they will change suppliers if not rectified. I'm sure YT is trusting of their suppliers and only have our input as an indicator that sometimes all is not what it appears to be. It is all too rampant in a country that prides itself in it's system of protectionary laws. I think we all would like to support this site by buying our parts here. Unfortunately bad words spread faster than good.

For anyone who might run into this in the future, this is how I ended up fixing the leak permanently (or at least until I restore the tractor!):

1. I re-surfaced the sealing face of the stamped steel thermo housing (which was pitted) using wet/dry sandpaper on a flat surface. Started with 120 and finished with 320.
2. Made a new gasket from 1/16" cork gasket material
3. scraped/cleaned the sealing area on the block and gave it a coating of Permatex hi-tack.
4. wire wheeled the bolts to clean them up. The holes are blind so you don't need sealer on the bolt threads.
5. put a thin coat of permatex blue RTV gasket maker on the steel thermo housing's sealing face.
6. assembled thermostat, housing, gasket, etc and slightly tightened the three 1/4" bolts.
7. waited overnight before final tightening of the bolts.

Now it can take full pressure & temperature without leaking a drop. All that's left is to stop the new gauge from leaking at the threads, but that's another post.
