Craftsman Lt1000 looking for replacement carb Mo# 917.275391

Hey all, I have an LT1000 model # 917.27539 needing carb work. I also have a Toro with the same briggs engine and carb. Both mowers carbs are stamped 697203. They both are surging, the toro much more so.....

I was looking into rebuilding the carbs, but found the price of some new small engine carbs to be reasonable enough to just buy a whole new carb.

My question, the search for a carb numbered 697203 has been very limited. Does anyone know a crossover part number that will work for a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance!

You may want to post this on the Garden Tractors forum also. I am sure you are aware of this, but the model number of the mower is of very little help finding engine parts. There are identification numbers on the engine that you will need for that. Briggs numbers are generally stamped on the flywheel shroud or if it is an OHV engine,it may be on the valve cover. Find the model number on the engine, then go to "SearsPartsDirect" and you can find a breakdown of the engine. Sears prices are a little steep, but you can at least find the correct part number, and purchase wherever you decide.

Have you tried cleaning them? Usually they can be
cleaned up and put back together without buying
anything but some spray carb cleaner.

Pay close attention to the main jet. Poke it out
with a fine wire to make sure it's totally free of
any gummy residue.

Thanks, yeah I realized after the fact I probably used the wrong forum...

I was going to try and clean them but I would have to buy manifold gaskets either way plus clean them. I've seen some brand new carbs that I "think" will fit for 20-25$ which is really a pretty negligible cost and requires very little effort. So I was weighing the feasibility of that.

I guess you're right about pulling the engine number. I was able to find parts that match my numbers but they were primarily used and overpriced (~70$). I was hoping to find an aftermarket crossover.

The carburetor might need a good cleaning but your surging is probly caused before the carburetor.
