exhaust valve stem caps

I just purchased a kit for my Ferguson TO30 and am rebuilding the head. The new exhaust valves do not have the hole for the stem caps. Should they have the hole?

Trying to remember how the caps are made... Will they fit on the valve without the hole? They need to be on there to spread the load on the tip of the rocker and to get the geometry of the contact area right. This is not an area to take chances, if in doubt contact the co. that put the kit together. An error here could be disastrous!

Continental used two types of caps, the one like you have and another cup type cap to use on valve that are not drilled. If I remember right the MF dealer I worked for used caps for the Z 134 engine on older tractors when valves were changed.

I just looked at caps for z 135 and they are the same as I have. The intake caps I currently have are cups and don't need the hole like the exhaust caps do. I wonder if the cup style caps for the intakes will work for the exhaust valves.
