splitting case 970 tractor

970 case, no powersteering, no hydraulics, no powershift, found pieces of spring at front drain plug, any ideas what is wrong?

You have an earlier 970 PS tractor. The hyd. pump drives off the Torque limiter disc on the engine flywheel, rather than off a splinned bushing in the flywheel in the later ones.The center of your Torque Limiter clutch broke. Split at bellhousing and replace the TL.

not trying to hijack here but im getting ready to split my 970 its a later model 77 i believe, i was told the TL is starting to slip as after about 30 minutes it feels like wheels are spinning in mud but they arent so its clutch related, my question is when i split and replace TL do i replace the pressure plate and spring like the case ih online parts store reccomends, pressure plate is $150 tl is $150 sprng is $450, not trying to be cheap but dont want to waste money if it isnt needed
