John deere B oil filter

Can anyone tell me if the oil filter head/housing can be taken out of crank case on a 1951 John deere b? If so, how is that done? Thanks, in advance.

I had mine out fourty years ago, seems like I took a block of wood and drove it up into the case and then drove it back down into the engine housing. Have to be real careful not to bend it.

You just need to remove the head casting if this is the one that the bolt spins in. Look up into the filter housing. You will need to remove that steel sleeve with the large fat washer attached to it. There are 2 holes in the side of that sleeve to hook a rod onto to pull it loose. There are 3 bolts that hold the head casting in place. Remove them and the head will come out.
