How can I repair fuel tank

I went to drain the water from my 530CK Case fuel tank (diesel) and the petcock broke right off. Now I have a 9/16 hole in the bottom of the metal sedimate bowl. How can I plug that hole with out removing the tank/ Thanks DB

I do not think there is any good way to do this. May some one here has an idea. I had to repair one on a 580ck a few years ago A real job to get it out. Would not come out forward The dash swings out to rear and tank came out this way. Filled tank with water and soap oil brazed the tank. Good luck.

You say a petcock broke off. If it broke off you should be able to use an easy out on it if you can get to it. Most petcocks are made of brass and don't come out hard.

A temporary fix wouldn't be too difficult. Do you know what an elevator bolt is? Like a carriage bolt but a larger, flatter head.

Cut a piece of 1/8 to 1/4 inch neoprene that fits tight around the thread of the bolt. Fish a piece of 3/8 poly tube up through the hole, out the filler neck. Put the bolt in the tube, guide it down to the hole, pull the tube off, put a nut and flat washer on the bolt.

Should buy you some time to get a new tank or pull the old one, see how extensive the rust is, make a decision to repair or replace.

When I said petcock, the threaded part came clear off. There is nothing there to remove. It left about a 9/16" hole. I installed a toggle bolt up thru the hole today with a rubber washer backed up with a metal washer and tightened that up and then I put JB weld on it. I will put another coat of JB on it tomorrow and give it a day to harden and see if it holds. I wire brushed the area first and then cleaned it with acetone. Got my fingers crossed.

Excuse me Steve, but help me understand what your suggesting. He broke the bung hole out of his tank that his petcock screws into. By closing the only hole that feeds his engine with an elevator bolt, how is that going to help him get his engine running?
