I decided to convert my 1952 Ford 8N to a 12 volt electrical system with electronic ignition. Does anyone know what size / rated diode I should use in the harness? I am installing a Delco Remy 10 SI alternator (3 wire-72 Amps, voltmeter, and a 12 volt ignition coil with 3 ohms internal resistance.

Radio shack 276-1661 is a good diode to use and it is way over kill so never likely to burn out

Thanks! Looking at the Radio Shack site the diode (276-1661)shows rated at 50 volt / 6 Amps. Another tread mentioned a 3 Amp diode in series. Would there be a benefit or potential problem with choosing one of these diodes over the other?

The reason I say use that one is there is no way you will reach 50 volts or 6 amps in the excite circuit and so it is over kill and I have used it for decades now and never had one go bad

By the way the sliver line goes to the alternator side. Plus cost is around $3 for a pack of 4
