Cas 970 Rear Wheel Issue

I recently got my case 970 stuck and I messed up the left rear wheel in the process of getting it out and I am trying to diagnose the issue. While the tractor was stuck the rear tires were lodged and I tried to free them up by rocking the tractor back and forth trying to get them spinning. When I tried this the gears grinded and never spun the tires so I stopped. Once we got the tractor out we the left rear wheel was locked up and would not turn. I rocked back and forth and broke it loose, but there is still a resistance in one part of the tires rotation. The right tire turns and drives normally but the left tire has a hiccup in it and has grinding coming from within the tractor I can not tell if it's the tranny or the rear end. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hi
I would guess from what you say there is a tooth off in the final drive somewhere.
it not turning would probably be the broken tooth jammed somewhere in another gear tooth or between a gear and casting. Rocking it probably popped the piece out. and the skip is every time the gap comes round to where it should mesh with another gear.
sounds to me like you got to take the final drive /rear axle apart to find it.

You might be lucky and only have a problem with the brake on that side. Have someone get in the tractor and operate the brake pedal while you watch to see if the slave ylinder and brake arm are moving freely, and not bound up. The arm sometimes seizes on the pivot pin, and doesn.t release the brake discs completely.
From your description it sound more like you have an issue with your side gear in the diff.
Scroll down to the CASE-DB forum and post there. Lots of Case brainpower there.
