Oliver 1650

Hello! My dad has an Oliver 1650 that has a steering problem. When he was using the tractor one day, the steering wheel cut sharp to the left and we couldn't move the tractor. Now, we found the power steering motor (please correct me if I am wrong) is bad. I am not sure if that is exactly what you call it or not. All I know is that it sits at the end of the shaft of the steering wheel and it has four hydraulic hoses connected to it. Is there anyone that knows the correct term of this motor?? Now, we found a used one and installed it but then had a hydraulic hose problem. After we got that taken care of, the seal at the top of the motor must have went because there is now hydraulic fluid coming out of the top of the motor. Any suggestions?? Any information will be helpful!!

It's a steering hydramotor. There's a seal kit available for that leak from Agco dealers for around $32. You just have to take the dash back off and pull the column/shaft from the top end of the hydramotor. You'll see that seal around the splined stub shaft. If you have your old one there, you can see it right there looking back at you. I put one of those kits in a year ago last summer. Piece of cake. Didn't take 5 minutes to change the seal after I got the dash and shaft off. Leave it right in the tractor and you can sit right on the seat and do it. I got a couple of good o-ring picks between the rubber seal and the shaft on mine and worked it right out.

Ok. Thank you for the information! We have had the tractor torn apart for a while now so we cant wait to get it put back together! Now, does AGCO handle all or most of the Oliver tractor parts? That seal is available without me having to take the top part (cap) off that steering hydramotor right? And I read that there are two types of steering hydramotors. The one we have is the outdated one I would assume. It's about the size of a volleyball and has 1 hydraulic hose in the front, 1 in the back and two on the side. What do you think?

Ya,it's for the old Saginaw steering. You don't have to take any bolts out of the hydramotor. The seal just pulls out of the casting and off the shaft. Seems like there are three parts or so in the kit. I don't remember right off the top of my head. Maybe a seal,o-ring and spacer or some such thing.
There hasn't ever been much for an Oliver that I can't get from the Agco dealer I deal with. They were Oliver and White to begin with and try their darndest to keep them going. There are some parts that are cheaper through aftermarket sources, but for something as cheap and simple as that seal kit,I wouldn't even waste my time shopping around. It's the right part at a good price. I THINK the part number for that kit is 156591A.
