TO20 PTO Clip Question

Hi all,

I just finished (almost) installing a new seal on the PTO shaft in my TO20 and am having a tough time getting the outer C clip back on.

The one that was down deeper wasn't too much of a problem, but the last one is really giving me a fit.

Any suggestions / tips on getting it in?

Thanks.

When I had the same challenge I slipped a PIPE NIPPLE over the PTO shaft up against ITEM 6 and then with a 14 oz. hammer applied two good firm blows. I also made sure there were no burrs on the c-clip.

I'm trying to get item number 4 back in - probably wasn't too clear from my description. I'm not sure I understand the pipe nipple part.

Place something over the PTO shaft (piece of pipe) up against # 3 (OUTER RACE)and give a blow/ shock to drive # 3 inwards. Be sure c-clip is flat with no burrs.

My axle is a little different apparently. I had to drive out a pin from a collar which I don't see on the diagram.

At any rate, for anyone interested, I was able to get it back in with a pair of locking pliers and a couple of screwdrivers.

Basically I locked one end of the C clip into the channel with the vise grips and then pried up on the opposite side of the clip. I slid it down the screwdriver and then levered the other end inside. Once it was inside, I was able to push it down into the channel.

Hopefully that makes sense. I couldn't take pictures of the process, but here's one with the pictures of the tools in the positions I had them in.
