cracked my exhaust manifold

Bumped the muffler against a tree I was straddling. Is it possible to weld cast iron?

Can be done but you pretty much need an oven to heat it up. Then you use Ni-Rod to weld it. Then once welded you put it back in the oven and heat it up as hot as you can then turn off the oven and let it cool. You stand a 50/50 chance it will hold if even that good

I would give it a try.

As long as you can keep the stress off of it, it will probably hold.

V out the 2 broken pieces (be sure to leave enough of the mating surfaces so they can get it straight) and take it to a weld shop.

Unless you have experience with cast, best leave it to the pros.

Old, you left off your BTDT many times.

Well I have only done 2 of them and did not have an oven but I now have an oven just need to get it in my shop. I know with out an oven it does not work because I tried it and it held maybe 30 minutes till the vibration cracked it in the same place

Probably have much better results with a gas weld useing flux and brazeing rod. I normally put the piece on the BBQ grill to heat it, then return it to the grill and let ot cool when/as the grill tenders down. You will need to clean and prepare the weld area before hand. BTDT many times with good results. Use plenty of bricketts, as the piece needs to be around 500 to 600 degrees F. (hot enough that spit bounches off).

Measure it and see if you can tap it for a pipe nipple. Might be close to 1 1/4 pipe thread. Hard to tell from a picture. I tap out all of my small Allis Chalmers manifolds.
