PTO Handle Will Not Budge

I'm new to tractors but this problem only popped up after I pulled the right side hood off my FORD 901 Select-A-Speed to access the wiring - after the ignition wiring shorted and self-destructed.

Now after the tractor's ignition wiring has been replaced and the tractor's engine is running great. I find that the PRO cable will not budge. There are no obvious kinks in the PTO cable body but it will not pull out of push in.

Any help is diagnosing this new problem will be very much appreciated.

You are going to have to get the manual. An IT is perfectly good for this, and study the part about removal of the hood. Then you do it carefully according the the book and it will work. It is not difficult, it just needs to be done correctly.

I don't know anything about the tractor, but the first thing to come to my mind is a fried PTO cable when the wiring shorted. Is that close to being possible? I've seen it happen when a wire rubs through its insulation against a cable and shorts into it.

I think it was in the mid 70's Chevy Chevelles would loose the body ground and melt the shift cable, sounds like your cable could of caught the ground for the ignition wire

The cable housing is fairly stout steel tubing. Shorting in fused ignition wiring is not likely to be strong enough to affect the cable inside even if a positive wire shorted against the tube. It is however EXTREMELY easy to get it wrong when putting the cable back after sheet metal removal, if the step by step instructions are not followed. Another thing that I thought of since my first post is that a sheet metal link under the SOS cover that is part of the PTO internal linkage an get bent and cause faulty operation.
