the front of my camshaft broke while cutting heavy brush. I suppose thw cam fron is a weak link

Will the service manual give me a high degree of detail as to how to service this?

As of tonight i dropped the pan, removed the gear cover, and took off the rocker arm and push rods.
. i removed the front retainer on the camshaft. However, the cam is only sliding back and forth about an inch. I can't figure out what is holding it up? Ideas?

Thanks
Bill

On most engines the lifters must be removed before
the cam shaft will come out.

What model tractor do you have?

I have a case vac
the lifters don't seem to be holding it up, I can push up on 3 or 4 at the same time
not sure how to get the lifters off either, except by removing cam!

(quoted from post at 04:16:25 09/17/14) Pull the distributor out.

distributor was removed
I suppose it has to be lifters
I may get a thin piece of flashing and hold up all lifters at ince
thanjs
