Choke on zenith carb

Been working on a 8N that has a zenith carb. I'm thinking the previous owner may not have used the correct linkage on the choke. It says it is reversible. With the choke knob pushed in the choke is full on, you have to pull the knob out and use a clamp to hold it there for the engine to run. Did this carb come with a left and right choke shaft spring or would pulling the roll pin on the shaft and rotating the connector 180* fix this? Thanks in advance

I have a 9n with a Zenith carb. The choke works
correctly. Sound like the lever on the carb is
upside down.

ok thanks , I will try to rotate it 180* . I can't picture in my mind if the spring tension will be correct once it's rotated but,,,it ain't correct now either. I didn't know why they had a small c clamp on the choke knob until I got it running!! Thanks again, will post back later this week.

I just received a Zenith carb for my Ford 4500 TLB- ordered from this site to replace the original MS carb. It has instructions to do just what you"re talking about, if necessary.

I had to work extra late tonite, will try to look tomorrow, pretty sure mine is pointing more to the rear.

ok , looking at the carb from the side, the choke lever was at appox 11 o'clock position, after pulling the roll pin and rotating the lever 180* it is now at 5 o'clock, closer to correct but still not right. now with the choke knob all the way in, the choke is barely open and pulling the knob out it closes completely. I have searched everywhere for the instructions on reversing the linkage but,, no luck. Do you still have them? The friction fit between the shaft and lever is tight enough that I mite be able to position it where needed and forget about the roll pin. Any thoughts on that? Here is a dropbox link.

also, is the throttle and choke shaft positions identical on the zenith and marvel ? As in no linkage adjustment needed.

can't tell the angle of choke plate from your picture and it has been several years since I have had a zenith in my hands, but if it is possible to attach the choke plate to the shaft two ways, one will result in pull to choke and other in push to choke as I believe I recall.

Thank you Mr. Guru,,,, for two things, one for wording your thought in a way to get me to thinking from a different angle without making me feel like a da ,,,AND solving my problem. Swapped the choke plate mounting position as you said and it fired right up. I was stuck on the "reversible linkage angle" . Thanks again to you and everyone else on this site for your time and experience shared.
