rotted loader hydro frame patch.

well. it looked solid and clean.
...but i guess i did not look hard enough.

i have some scale and holes on my ford 720 series loader on my 4030. whole thing is clean except for the hardest to get at parts, where soil and whatnot had collected i guess.
the spot is inside the gussets for the front lower pin to mount to the bracket that mounts to the tractor.

no leaks for a couple of days of be using after i got the thing working, and i went out this morning and saw the puddle...

since its such a pain of a spot and i have no easy way to take the frame off this thing, no other tractor, and i dono if my shop crane is up to it... is there cheater way to do this, that would last me a couple years, like maybe jb weld?

or do i just need to cut a piece of plate steel and weld it over the whole crusty pinhole spot,6x2.5 or something, in between those gussets. i would not bother trying to shut the holes, just a mess...

problem is, my mig is still in TX and all i have is a miller legend that i am not really used to, i never welded much with stick and what i did do was years ago.

i would love to weld it and be done with it, but would rather invest time in the 1000 other things i need to get done.

so, nomater what i did with the thing, i would drain the fluid, heat it with a torch, wire wheel, torch, solvent, torch, steel brush. then weld or jb weld it.

has anyone had decent results with jb weld and hydro fluid, there is plenty of scale for it to stick to, and i could always weld the plate over the jb patch, down the road.

or do i just suck it up and figure out how to get the welder to run (only used the gen so far, and forgot what the PO told me) and practice my stick welding for an hour and do it.

the rod i have around a lincoln excalibur 1/8 7018, i could pick something else up.

thanks everyone.

ok, so i am probably going to just suck it up and weld it.
i was worried about the thing, but got the old 70s miller aead 200 to start of the first pull (with a toss of gas down the throat), and running and working nice in weld position. not sure if the 7018 rod is right for the job, but it should work. last time i stick welded i did not have rod that behaved this nice and easy.

not sure when i will get to this, but i will post pics of what i did when i am done.

i still would love to hear how others tackle this
